Veysel Donbaz was born in Denizli / Bekilli on December 12, 1939, as the 5th child of a well-off merchant. After completing his primary and secondary education, he entered the Sumerology Department of the Faculty of Language, History and Geography of Ankara University (1958-1962). The only and diligent student of the department. He was educated by many professors: Prof.Dr. Kemal Balkan, Prof.Dr. Emin Bilgic , Prof.Dr. Mebrure Tosun (sometimes), and Prof.Dr. From Kadriye Yalvaç (she was still a Dr.) in the Department of Sumerology
(Sumerian and Akkadian languages should not be confused with Hittitology, where Hittite is the main language and Sumerian assists; from Prof. Dr. Tahsin Özgüç and Prof. Dr. Nimet Özgüç He also studied Near East and Anatolian Archeology courses and Hittitology from Ord.
